National Press Photographers Association's Advanced Storytelling Workshop
The National Press Photographers Association's annual Advanced Storytelling Workshop will be held at Texas State University starting Sunday, April 7, and for VMT students will run through early afternoon Tuesday, April 9. Departure times on Sunday and Tuesday are pending. (The full workshop ends Friday, April 12.)
Mr. Webber and Ms. Teran can each bring 5 students, or any combination that totals 10.
Expenses will be paid for by a D.D. Hachar grant that includes hotel, transportation, registration, and meals for 10 students and two instructors. You will be responsible for any other expenses, such as souvenirs, snacks, and clothing, for example.
As STAAR English I (April 9) and II (April 11) fall during or after the trip, no students taking the STAAR English I exam will be able to attend. Attendance for those interested and who will be taking the STAAR English II exam is pending.
Please let Mr. Webber know if you're interested in going. More information will be available closer to the workshop.
The workshop is much like a staff development session for teachers. In this case, your fellow students will be television reporters, camera operators, and online media reporters from throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe. (Last year Germany and Denmark were represented.)
Each VMT student will be expected to attend several class sessions. VMT students will also form groups, come up with a story idea and refine it, then complete videotaping for the story before leaving San Marcos. Back at VMT students must finish editing their stories then publish them on The Magnet Tribune's website and VMT Productions' YouTube site.
This video will count as part of the students' final exams.
