Juniors' expectations
Fall semester 2018 (Updated July 26)
- Long-form news or feature story on a topic, person, or place of your choice. For more information see Long Form Story below. This will be part of your final exam for the fall semester.
- Columnists: Write at least one column plus create and publish an audio or video podcast.
- One entry in the ATPI Fall Photography Contest. This will be part of your final exam grade.
- Completion of all work assigned.
- One blog on a topic of your choice.
- Podcast on a topic of your choice. (Part of your final exam grade)
Spring semester 2019 (Updated July 26)
- Columnists: Write at least two columns. Why not go for three? Part of your final exam for the spring semester.
- Everybody else: At least one story and one set of photos for publication, as self assigned or as assigned by the teacher. Part of your final exam for the spring semester.
- Photos for the 23rd Annual Photography Exhibition and attendance at the show. Part of your final exam for the spring semester.
- Completion of all work assigned.
Long Form Story Project (Updated Aug. 12) (More information will be added soon)
Juniors will choose a person, place, or thing you are interested in and write an in-depth story of at least 700 words. Emphasis will be placed on extensive quotes from those interviewed for the story, details and background information as needed to help tell the story, as well as organization of the story to meet the expectations of print journalism.
You will need to have at least one photograph you take to accompany the story.
This project counts as part of your final exam for the fall semester.
The Long Form Story Project is not a written report.
Milestone dates and a schedule of days you can work on this in class will be announced in the coming days.

Some random ideas for stories:
- Clear plastic backpacks in LISD schools.
- Possible legislation concerning marijuana by state legislators in the next legislative session (January 2019).
- Somebody who stands out in their field, adult or student.
- A student who stands out in something he or she does. (athletics, UIL, academic area, church, fishing, cooking, hunting, Boy Scouts or Girl Scouts or higher, hobby, etc.)
- People who have had an email, social media, or other account hacked.
- Teen couples who have been together throughout high school.
- Somebody who is marking a special anniversary.
- Mrs. Rodriguez, dance instructor, took dancers to New York City during the summer.
- Fountain pens (Mr. Webber has a package of them for you to use.)
- Challenges of somebody in public service face, such as a fireman or police officer, EMT, etc.
- Some one or some people who are affected by whatever is going on with DACA nowadays.
- People who are active in a school activity.
- Somebody who scored extremely high on the PSAT or SAT.
- Something of your choice that is not listed here.
