Letter from Miguel and Jillian
FILM PROJECT REQUEST FOR WRITING SUBMISSIONS
March 15, 2018
Dear writers,
It was great to meet you last month and tell you a little about the film project we are
working on at VMT. We enjoyed spending time at school and around Laredo and we are
looking forward to coming back to keep working on the film very soon.
As we talked about when we visited your class, right now we are looking for strong voices,
ideas, and stories that could be a part of the film and we want to hear from all of you.
You are welcome to submit both old work and new work and you can share as much as
you want; it does not need to be limited to one piece or one idea. In addition, the writing
you share can be any genre in any form: notes, outline, prose, poetry, short story, essay,
newspaper article, fiction, non-fiction, fantasy, sci-fi, comedy, romance, comic strip,
storyboard -- or anything else not listed here.
There is truly no wrong way to submit writing for this project. The only important thing is
that it expresses your voice. Don't worry about editing, typos, or spelling. There are no
rules or guidelines, except it's important to keep in mind that the film will be shot in
Laredo and the main point-of-view characters will be teenagers. So, even if it's part-
fantasy, sci-fi, or supernatural in some way, the film has to able to be set in Laredo and
feature a cast of people from Laredo.
The early deadline for submissions is April 1. The late deadline is May 1. Send all
submissions to [email protected] with the subject LFP WRITER [YOUR
NAME].
For all students not involved in Tapestry, we encourage you to submit before the early
deadline of April 1 (and you can always send us more if you have other ideas you want to
share later!)
For students working on Tapestry, we encourage you to send previously completed work
and/or work-in-progress versions of current Tapestry pieces before the early deadline of
April 1. All new writing specifically for the film project can be submitted by the late
deadline of May 1.
Any questions? Some are answered in the attached FAQ but if you have anything else
you're wondering about at all, just send an email to [email protected] or call/
text 401-864-8437. We will always do our best to reply within 24 hours.
Thanks! We look forward to receiving your writing submissions.
